This “Tapestry of Faith” class for adults from the UUA was developed by Rev. Dr. Thandeka. The program explores the life experiences of historic and contemporary Unitarian Universalist theologians, highlighting that which caused in each of them a change of heart, a new direction, new hope, and a deeper understanding of their own liberal faith, and includes stories of Hosea Ballou, William Channing, Forrest Church and others.

Hand Drumming Fun

You can learn to play congas, djembes, ashikos and other hand drums in a friendly, supportive setting. You'll also learn hand and stick drumming techniques, coordination, and timekeeping skills as well as recognizing and playing a variety of rhythmic patterns and signals, which we will combine to create multi-part ensemble rhythms. It's fun! Beginners welcome! Instruments provided.

Portraiture Workshop
Wednesday, Oct. 6

This workshop will give you basic instruction on how to draw a likeness of a person. Bring paper and pencils, large paper (16x20 newsprint or other) and a drawing board or other rigid support for your paper. Some supplies are available for use if necessary. We will talk about how to transition your drawing to a painting, and if there is interest we might meet later as a painting group.
Folk Music Sing-Along

Do you love to sing or play an instrument in an informal setting? No actual singing or playing ability is required as our goal is to have fun. If you've got a guitar, mandolin, autoharp, or other instrument, bring it along. Strumming quietly in the back will not only be tolerated, but encouraged for those who feel shy about playing in front of others. Bring a Rise-Up-Singing book if you have one or books are available to share. Finger foods are welcome.

Elder Women’s Gathering

All Evergreen women aged 60 and over are invited to take part in the Women's Wisdom Project, an exploration of our lives and experiences, both past and present and including an imagining of our futures. We will create safe and supportive places for meeting together (in large and small groups) and will incorporate conversation, art, music, writing, photography, and videography in order to co-create a vehicle for sharing our stories and wisdom. At this "kick-off" event, a light lunch will be provided.
My Life as Consequence of the Holocaust

George Beykovsky
George, a member of Evergreen for over a quarter of century, will share his life story. At the age of eight his family fled from persecution in Slovakia and immigrated to Ecuador. At age 18 George moved to the U.S. and in later life he discovered his Jewish heritage. There will be time for questions and a discussion about the ancestry of those in attendance.

Green Conversations: "Renewal" film series

For each Green Conversation, Rev. Davis will set a context for viewing one of the short films in this series (8 -15 minutes long). The group will then watch the film and discuss it. The "Renewal" film series is recommended by the UUA and highlights various different faith communities who are putting into action their commitment to good stewardship of the earth. "Green Conversations" will continue through the rest of the church year.

Explore the mind/body/spirit connection in passionate power dancing. All classes include centering, core strength building, stretching, Ballet, Classical Modern and Creative Dance, in which personal expression links the mind with the human spirit. Contact Martha for specific session times. There is no charge, but any contributions received will be split between Evergreen and Martha Le Valley School, a nonprofit organization.
Introduction to Pain Management

This introductory workshop will provide insight into the effects of chronic pain on the body and mind, offer information for healing pain, and show how personal belief and perception can influence and manipulate the physical body and alter mental processes. We will look at pain in the context of our physical, social, historical, and perceptual ideologies. John Yeoman is a Chronic Pain Group Facilitator and Counselor who works with the YWCA, the American Chronic Pain Association and Lake City Veterans Affairs.

Using guided imagery and the creative medium of collage, we will take a deeper look into the mirror to see what’s on the other side. Often its beauty or power is something we didn’t even know we had .
Healing Self, Healing Earth
