~ Steven Greenebaum, Director of Music
December 2009
Wow! If you missed the Evening of Music you really missed something special. A rousing and heart-felt thank you to everyone involved!! So many worked so hard to make this night happen. And happen it did. Magnificently!
So, what about future music at Evergreen?
There’s a wonderful Holiday Service on the horizon on December 20. The kids have something special planned. And the choir will chime in with a rousing “Welcome, Welcome, ‘Tis the Season” as well as that old favorite “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Christmas Eve promises to be a warm and special evening as well – snow permitting!
December is certainly a sacred month! On the 12th is the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe as well as the first day of Chanukah. December 18 marks the New Year in the Islamic calendar, the first of Muharram (a month to be dedicated to peace). Christmas arrives promptly on the 25th with Kwanzaa on the 26th.
The question, of course, is never our diversity, but what we do about it. Hopefully, whatever our beliefs, whatever our spiritual paths, we can wish each other joy and love … and mean it. Not only men and women, Christians and Muslims, Arabs and Israelis, but even Republicans and Democrats.
Last year I wished you a Happy Hanukwanzmas. Perhaps this year, Happy Hanumuharkwanzalupemas!
Try saying THAT seven times quickly!
