Sprouts & Saplings
2nd through 8th grades
Children begin in the Sanctuary most Sundays--on class days, after a
Time for All Ages, they are led out by the teachers to their classrooms and
released to Coffee Hour at 11:45am. Our classroom follows a Head,
Hands, Heart model and begins with the Children lighting their own chalice,
sharing Joys & Sorrows with each other, and a short lesson. The Children
can then choose among stations with activities designed to help the child
best absorb and explore the lesson.
The Head station has related books and journals for a quieter experience.
The Hands station has craft or art related activities that encourage
creating something meaningful about the lesson.
The Heart station offers a space for movement
(a game related to the lesson) and/or creativity from the
heart, like a poem, song, or skit.
The Children meet back up at the end of class to share experiences and extinguish their chalice.
Children are released to Coffee Hour at 11:45am.
